Dr. William N. Spellacy Named a VIP Member of Worldwide Who’s Who for Excellence in Obstetrics & Gynecology

Dr. Spellacy was named a distinguished research professor in 1994 by the University of South Florida

APOLLO BEACH, FL, February 28, 2013, William Spellacy, Graduate Research Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of South Florida, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Who’s Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

Dr. Spellacy earned an MD from the University of Minnesota in 1959 after obtaining a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts from the same institution. He went on to complete an internship at Minneapolis General Hospital and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at his alma mater. He has since gained 50 years of experience. For the past 25 years, he has served as a professor at the University of South Florida, where he uses his expertise in high-risk pregnancy, maternal-fetal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology to teach graduate students in the College of Medicine.

Dr. Spellacy became a certified diplomate with a board subspecialty of maternal-fetal medicine in 1975 and recertified in 1991. He retains membership to dozens of professional organizations, including The American Federation for Clinical Research, American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Perinatal Research Society, American Association of Planned Parenthood Physicians and Florida Diabetes Association. He also serves as the director of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Inc., and is a member of several search committees.

In 2001, Dr. Spellacy received an Outstanding Resident Teaching Award, and in 1998 was honored with the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics Excellence in Teaching Award. He has also received recognition for his excellence as a researcher and physician. His many honors in these areas include being named a distinguished research professor in 1994 by the University of South Florida and being included in Good Housekeeping’s list of “120 Best Doctors in America.” Dr. Spellacy attributes his success to his good training, opportunities and loving what he does. In years to come, he looks forward to training the next generation of physicians and solving some of the medical problems that still exist.
